Flower Care Instructions
Make your flowers last longer with these simple care tips. With proper care, most arrangements will stay fresh and beautiful for 7 days or more.
1. When Your Flowers Arrive
Follow these steps immediately after receiving your flowers:
1.1 Unpack Immediately
Remove all packaging, wrapping, rubber bands, and ties from the stems.
1.2 Trim the Stems
Cut 1β2 inches off each stem at a 45-degree angle using sharp scissors or a knife. This improves water absorption.
1.3 Remove Lower Leaves
Remove any leaves that would sit below the waterline. Submerged leaves promote bacteria growth.
1.4 Use Flower Food
Dissolve the included flower food packet in lukewarm water before placing flowers in the vase.
2. Daily Flower Care
Keep your arrangement fresh with these daily habits:
- Check water daily β Flowers absorb a lot of water, especially in the first few days
- Change water every 2β3 days β Replace completely and re-trim stems (~0.5 inch)
- Keep flowers cool β Avoid direct sunlight, heat sources, and appliances
- Avoid fruit proximity β Ripening fruit releases ethylene gas that speeds up wilting
3. Best Placement Tips
3.1 Ideal Conditions
- Temperature: 65β72Β°F (18β22Β°C)
- Light: Indirect natural light
- Environment: Cool and well-ventilated
3.2 Avoid These Conditions
- Direct sunlight
- Drafts and strong airflow
- Radiators and heating vents
- Air conditioning vents
4. Care Tips by Flower Type
4.1 Roses
Roses are thirsty flowers. Check water levels twice daily and re-cut stems every 2 days. Remove outer guard petals if bruised.
4.2 Lilies
Remove orange pollen stamens as blooms open to prevent stains. Buds will open gradually over several days.
4.3 Hydrangeas
Hydrangeas require a lot of water. If drooping, submerge the entire flower head in cool water for 30 minutes.
4.4 Tulips
Tulips continue growing after being cut and bend toward light. Rotate the vase daily and use cold water.
4.5 Sunflowers
Sunflowers are low-maintenance. Keep water fresh and stems trimmed. They prefer bright, indirect light.
5. Arrangements in Floral Foam (Oasis)
If your arrangement comes with floral foam:
- Keep foam hydrated β Add water daily directly onto the foam
- Do not remove stems β Repositioning damages the foam structure
- Water gently β Use a small container to avoid disturbing the arrangement
6. When to Replace Flowers
Even with proper care, flowers are temporary. Remove stems when you notice:
- Brown or translucent petals
- Slimy or soft stems
- Cloudy water shortly after changing
- Unpleasant odor
Removing wilted flowers helps extend the life of the remaining arrangement.
