Make your flowers last longer with these simple care tips. With proper care, most arrangements will stay fresh and beautiful for 7 days or more.
Average Vase Life

Water Change
Every 2β3 Days
Stem Re-trim
Every 2 Days
When Your Flowers Arrive
Follow these steps immediately after receiving your flowers.
Unpack Immediately
Remove all packaging, wrapping, rubber bands, and ties from the stems as soon as your flowers arrive.
Trim the Stems
Cut 1β2 inches off each stem at a 45-degree angle using sharp scissors or a knife. This maximizes water absorption.
Remove Lower Leaves
Remove any leaves that would sit below the waterline. Submerged leaves promote bacteria growth and shorten vase life.
Use Flower Food
Dissolve the included flower food packet in lukewarm water before placing flowers in the vase.
Daily Flower Care
Keep your arrangement fresh with these daily habits.
Check water daily
Flowers absorb a lot of water, especially in the first few days.
Change water every 2β3 days
Replace completely and re-trim stems by about 0.5 inch each time.
Keep flowers cool
Avoid direct sunlight, heat sources, radiators, and appliances.
Avoid fruit proximity
Ripening fruit releases ethylene gas that speeds up wilting.
Best Placement
Where you place your flowers makes a big difference.
Ideal Conditions
Avoid These Conditions
- Direct sunlight
- Drafts and strong airflow
- Radiators and heating vents
- Air conditioning vents
Specific Care Tips
Different flowers have different needs. Here is what to know about each.
Roses
Roses are thirsty. Check water levels twice daily and re-cut stems every 2 days. Remove outer guard petals if bruised.
Lilies
Remove orange pollen stamens as blooms open to prevent stains. Buds will open gradually over several days.
Hydrangeas
Require a lot of water. If drooping, submerge the entire flower head in cool water for 30 minutes.
Tulips
Continue growing after being cut and bend toward light. Rotate the vase daily and use cold water.
Sunflowers
Low-maintenance. Keep water fresh and stems trimmed. They prefer bright, indirect light.
Floral Foam
Oasis Arrangements
- Add water daily directly onto the foam
- Do not remove and reposition stems
- Water gently to avoid disturbing the arrangement
Know When
When to Replace Flowers
Even with proper care, flowers are temporary. Remove stems when you notice:
- Brown or translucent petals
- Slimy or soft stems
- Cloudy water shortly after changing
- Unpleasant odor
Removing wilted flowers helps extend the life of the remaining arrangement.
